A resident of East Haddam, Connecticut in his 60s was found to be the third patient who died in 2019 because of being affected by the Eastern Equine Encephalitis Virus, which is a mosquito-borne disease. On Tuesday, the health officials of the state said that another man had been hospitalized for more than 5 weeks now due to being down with the EEE disease.
The patient of East Haddam was affected by the disease any time around the second week of September this year. The fourth patient who has been hospitalized is in his 40s and belongs to Colchester. Dr. Matthew Cartter is an epidemiologist working with the Department of Public Health of the state. He said in his statement that this had been an unprecedented year for Eastern Equine Encephalitis activity taking place in Connecticut.
Before these cases were encountered in 2019, there was only one patient found in 2013 who suffered from EEE and belonged to Connecticut. This year about four patients have been faced suffering from EEE and out of which three cases are fatal. The other two people who died out of EEE belongs to Old Lyme and East Lyme.
