The Chinese Wet Markets have opened again after China controlled its COVID19 cases. However, across the globe there has been a constant pressure to close these markets. It is believed that Novel Coronavirus started from one such wet markets in China where both dead and alive animals are sold as food.
Leading animal rights group PETA has petitioned WHO to stop wet markets across the globe. This online petition has been signed by 100,000 people globally. Another animal protection group Animal Equality is also pressurizing United Nations to order closure of such wet markets. Animal Equality has also started a fresh petition and a campaign.
A number of leading celebrities are also voicing this opinion. The latest in the list being singer Bryan Adams. Adams took to Instagram to ask for shutting down of these wet markets. He stated that the reason for origin and spread of such viruses from decades has been such wet markets where animals are sold dead and alive. He used a hashtag go vegan to urge his fans to resort to veganism to avoid such situations.
The singer is a long time advocate of Veganism. Here in this particular post he put a cartoon by Steve Cutts and in caption he used hashtag close wet markets. The cartoon shows a virus on one side and a human figure on the other and the text says “Here we see one of the deadliest plagues that the world has ever seen. The other one is the Coronavirus.”
As of now, the Novel Coronavirus which is suspected to have started from a wet market in Wuhan, China has killed over 61,000 people across the world.
