Summer might have just endedbut it seems like the 2019-2020 flu season is beginning to build up, causing the death of a New Mexico woman, announced the health officials this week.
In a statement, the Public Health Department of New Mexico announced the death of the woman belonging to Bernalillo Country. She was 90 years old. The department further said that the woman was 1 of the 5 flu cases reported in New Mexico so far in 2019. Three remaining cases are from the Sandoval County while one is from the Santa Fe County.
Flu could be dangerous if not treated or if the person has a weak immune system, said the health officials. Hence, getting the flu vaccine each year is the only best way of protecting yourself and your family.
The health officials have urged the residents to get flu vaccinations immediately. It takes nearly 2 weeks for the flu vaccine to work, said Michelle Lin from NYC’s Mount Sinai. It is particularly important for young kids, pregnant women as well as elder people to receive the flu shots as they have higher chances of contracting the flu virus.
It isn’t clear if the woman from New Mexico who died due to flu had taken the shot.
