Vegan eatery Pollo Project in Texas is celebrating World Vegan Day on Sunday by giving away 1,600 chicken sandwiches at its original food cart location at Roadmap Brewery in San Antonio.
They will be giving away customers a free taste of its house breaded vegan chicken slathered in homemade aioli and served with dill pickles. The eatery will only offer menu items with no changes that day and service will be on first come and first perform from noon to 7 pm.
Eatery basically makes its sandwiches with proprietary vegan chicken patties. The patties that will be used during the event are a last-minute donation done by vegan food company Gardein.
Customers are advised to come early as lines are expected to be extended.
Pollo Project is launched by vegan entrepreneur Lucas Bradbury to challenge the typical idea of chicken with vegan alternatives for classic fast food such as burgers, wraps, strips etc.
Pollo Project’s mission also challenges the norms in other ways, such as it pays $15 per hour, which is above the local minimum wage and uses its menu items to support community organizations.
They do a lot of other charity work too like they donate $1 from sales for animal charities and other charities for underprivileged children and people struggling with homelessness and hunger.
Bradbury told VegNews that, “We are people over profits. That’s our main project: pollo with a purpose.”
The World Vegan Day giveaway is also like a celebration of project Pollo’s tremendous expansion, which will bring new mortar and brick locations of vegan shops.
The drive will run to four locations in Texas before 2021 spring: three in San Antonio (in the Castle hills, Hollywood park and five points neighbourhoods) along with one in Austin city.
