Hulda B Waage is the lady viking of Iceland, who is an intimidating powerlifter. Athletes are supposed to be on strict and restricted diets. And Hulda is no exception. She is a vegan by choice and holds on to her vegan principles strongly.
Recently, she competed at the National Championship. She came out with flying colours when she broke two records. The competition wasn’t much because there weren’t many participants. But that didn’t make it easy. Less contestants meant less time to relax and warm up. Still, she did her best and won the title.
She weighs 82.9 kg, and she started with a 230 kg squat. This apparently equalled her own national record. But Hulda didn’t stop at this. She bench pressed lift 142.5 kg. And set a national record for a powerlifting competition. She also went ahead and did a 180kg squat which is a total of 552 kg. It is another national record that she made that day.
Hulda Waage was happy with the results and confessed that she wasn’t expecting to win but wanted to do the best. She is serious about her health, and went vegan back in 2014. Since then she holds a strict diet where she does not consume anything non-vegan.
She shared in her interview that she would rather starve than eat non-vegan food while traveling. And said what she eats while on the road. Hulda remains prepared for her hunger pangs with Black Bean Pasta, hummus, or dried beans and nuts. She also keeps protein powder dried wheatgrass and chlorella with her. While at home she feels more at control because she can prepare her meal better.
