The disease of Breast cancer, which is very common amongst women and rare in men, has seen a rise in recent times and is expected to increase in the coming times. Although breast cancer is curable to some extent, Presently, one in every eight women at one point of her life will develop invasive breast cancer. Many reasons are factoring in the risk of breast cancer in recent times, but according to some recent studies, there is a very uncommon reason which no one thinks of can increase the chances of breast cancer.
The Physicians Committee did recent evidence, and studies for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) have proved that the consumption of Dairy products can increase the chances of Breast cancer in women. Yes, you read that right Dairy product which the Dietary Guidelines for America and every professional nutritionist in the world recommends at least two servings in a day.
Multiple Billboards claiming that Dairy products increase the risk of getting breast cancer for women hit the city of Washington, D.C on October 12. Susan Levine, director of nutrition education for the Physicians Committee, stated that what the present guidelines suggested to the Americans and people all over the world are putting more and more women at risk for breast cancer.
She also mentions that the people of America can be saved if the USDA and HHS state that dairy is not very important and will, in the long run, but the female population’s lives at risk in their Dietary guidelines that will be released later this year.
The two studies mentioned by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine are a study that happened in 2017 funded by the National Cancer Institute and a study in ‘The Life After Cancer Epidemiology’. The research that took place in 2017 which was funded by the National Cancer Institute after testing on women who have Breast cancer concluded that the consumption of Dairy products by women on a daily basis increases the chances of getting breast cancer by 53%.
The Life After Cancer Epidemiology stated that women who consumed less than a single serving on a daily basis or did not consume Dairy products regularly were most likely to not suffer from Breast cancer in the future whereas, the women who consumed dairy products daily were more prone to Breast cancer in their life.
Conclusion
Based on the above two studies, we can see that the researchers have found that daily consumption of dairy products is harmful to women as it increases their chances of having breast cancer. Although the studies might have concluded with the results above after vigorous research and on solid grounds, we cannot blindly follow whatever they say and wait for a nod from the USDA and HHS. Suppose the USDA and HHS release this statement in their Dietary guidelines that they will release later this year. In that case, women can and should make changes in their diets accordingly and avoid even the slightest risk of getting breast cancer from their side
