Coronavirus Pandemic has affected the world like never before. Almost every country in the world is infected with the virus. The mortality rate of COVID 19 is also increasing day by day. Each day, new researches are coming out about prevention from the virus and about food and vitamins that could be of help.
In a recent study, Dr Lee Smith of Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) and Mr Petre Cristian Ilie, the lead urologist of Queen Elizabeth Hospital, have come to a conclusion that COVID 19 mortality rates have a relation with Vitamin D levels in the patients.
The research says that patients with higher amounts of Vitamin D in their body are less prone to death in COVID. Italy and Spain have recorded one of the highest levels of mortality rate in the world. Both these countries have patients which had a low level of Vitamin D in their bodies.
People in Northern Europe have the highest level of Vitamin D. This population has the lowest recorded mortality rate in Europe. Their high Vitamin D levels are linked with their consumption of Cod Liver Oil and other supplements.
Another study had reported that 75 percent of people in hospitals and nursing homes have severe Vitamin D deficiency. This was connected with less sunlight in these centres. A doctor suggested that citizens must also take enough sunlight or food supplement to boost this vitamin.
Best source of Vitamin D is sunlight. With Lockdowns in place across the world, the total intake of Vitamin D will reduce. If this study is proven globally then people will have to come up with ways to increase their exposure to sunlight.
