India is a country where more people are vegetarian. It is the second country, which eats more vegetarian food.  Though there is a comprehensive point of difference between eating vegetarian food and eating vegan food. Vegetarian food includes processed cheese, butter, buttermilk, paneer, milk, and all the other food items made with cow or buffalo milk. Whereas in veganism, all these products aren’t included, all the food items are plant-based, nutritious, healthy, and environment friendly. Therefore, it is hard to find a vegan food market in India.

In recent times, due to the outbreak of the global pandemic, COVID-19; many non-vegetarian people have shifted from eating beef, chicken, and pork to vegan food.  This changed didn’t occur overnight; some people shifted because of the pandemic, while some shifted because they learned about the damages that are caused, and because of climatic changes; while some shifted because of the influence of western culture; while some shifted because their role Bollywood actor signed the pact of going vegan.

Whatever may be the real reason, what matters the most is that more and more people are turning vegan. All we needed to conserve our mother earth and take care of the climate and our environment.

Challenges faced by Vegan Food Market in India.

Many challenges are faced by vegan food markets in India. The food manufacturers and restaurants are trying to bring an alternative to traditional food products that contain meat or dairy products like milk, butter, cheese, etc. Though these alternatives aren’t
that superior when compared to original products.
Another challenge of the industry is to acquire the same taste and texture to the food product so that more and more people try to eat vegan and follow the practice of veganism.

Trends of the Vegan market in India.

Since 30 to 40 per cent of the Indian population is vegetarian.  Many multi-national companies are looking forward to investing in the plant- based food business in India. This will undoubtedly have tremendous growth in the food sector in the future.

As day by day, more people are trying to go vegan, this will lead to more demand for vegan food products in the market.

In India many new vegan restaurants are opening. Bengaluru witnessed the first- ever Vegan restaurant in India. According to the recent surveys conducted in India, the vegan food market would increase by the end of the year 2021. As people have started noticing many health benefits like weight loss, reversing lifestyle disorders, lowering blood pressure levels, and many more.

Even many online sites provide vegan recipes to promote veganism among the masses. Now, if we go to a supermarket, we can easily find soya milk (plant-based milk), which was previously not available in
India. But now, with the increase in demand, such kind of plant-based products are readily available in all the supermarkets of India.

Conclusion.

As people are now getting aware of veganism and its perks, slowly and gradually, people are shifting to going vegan. This is not going to happen overnight because it needs a lot of dedication. But soon, many
more people would indeed join the vegan community and share their life transformation stories as well.
